5 Tips On How To Recover From Gastroenteritis Quickly

July 17, 2022 By AdvanceTec Writer

Enteritis, which refers to inflammation of the mucous membrane of the large intestine or small intestine, is usually classified into acute and chronic forms. Enteritis is the most common form of infection caused by infection with various viruses and bacteria through ingestion of food or water, and it is also caused by toxic substances. Various symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and fever appear within 72 hours of ingesting the causative food. Enteritis is known to be one of the diseases to watch out for in summer, when the temperature difference between day and night is so great that the immune system is easily weakened during the changing seasons and in hot and humid weather, where bacterial infection is easy. When the symptoms of enteritis are mild, the symptoms are often relieved naturally without special treatment. However, if the recovery does not go well and if it is late, the symptoms may continue for several weeks, and in severe cases, it can cause various abnormal symptoms that are harmful to the body, including dehydration. Therefore, improvement of lifestyle is very important for effective treatment and prevention of enteritis symptoms. Moreover, it can be said that such lifestyle improvement has a direct effect on strengthening the body’s immunity to prepare for the causative bacteria that cause enteritis. Now, let’s take a look at the various methods that will help you get rid of gastroenteritis quickly.

How to get rid of gastroenteritis quickly

1. Rehydration

When gastroenteritis symptoms occur, it is recommended to drink enough water because the body may become dehydrated due to diarrhea and vomiting. Rather than drinking a lot of water all at once, it is better to drink it in small portions and from time to time, and it is better to drink lukewarm water rather than cold water. In addition, the intake of ionic drinks and barley tea, as well as replenishment of fluids to replenish electrolytes, are said to have a beneficial effect in alleviating symptoms. Also, you can expect a good effect in helping to quickly replenish electrolytes by frequently drinking a small amount of salt water containing about half a spoon of salt in about 1L of water.

2. Eat foods that do not burden the stomach

If you eat normally when symptoms of enteritis appear, you can add a greater burden to the weakened stomach and worsen related symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. It is recommended to limit normal intake of food for 1 to 2 days after symptoms appear, and to consume rice or porridge in small amounts. And when you have reached a certain level of recovery, it is recommended to gradually increase the intake of foods that help digestion, such as cabbage, broccoli, plum, banana, hemp, and honey, and do not burden the stomach.

3. Limit your intake of irritating foods

When gastroenteritis symptoms develop, it is important to limit the intake of normal meals, but it is important to be especially careful about consuming spicy and stimulant foods. Intake of foods that burden digestion and stimulate the stomach, such as flour or oily foods, can make symptoms worse, so you should avoid eating them. In addition, alcohol and coffee, as well as beverages containing fructose, can cause worsening of symptoms, so it is not recommended to drink during the recovery period.

4. Restriction on the use of antidiarrheal drugs

Occasionally, over-the-counter antidiarrheal medications are taken to relieve diarrhea, a major symptom of enteritis. Diarrhea is a natural physiological process for excreting bad bacteria from our body. If you stop diarrhea by taking antidiarrheal drugs, you should avoid taking antidiarrheal drugs arbitrarily because they can make symptoms worse by blocking the release of toxins from the body.

5. Careful personal hygiene

In order to alleviate and prevent enteritis symptoms in advance, it is important to manage personal hygiene meticulously and meticulously. It is recommended to wash your hands thoroughly before preparing food, right after going to the bathroom, and after returning from a day out. Also, in summer, high temperature and humidity make food easily deteriorate, which increases the risk of enteritis, so it is a good way to cook the food completely. In addition, warming the stomach with a hot pack or hot compress during the recovery period is known to help a lot in relieving symptoms quickly.
