Facebook failed again to filter out racist ads

The Associated Press reported on the 9th (local time) that Facebook failed a test to filter out racist ads.

Global Witness, a non-profit organization, said that Facebook and its parent company, Meta, had failed to properly filter out an ad that was submitted to Facebook by creating a hypothetical advertisement related to the genocide in Ethiopia.

These ads were not actually exposed, the group added.

In March, Facebook also failed to detect and block hateful posts about the Rohingya minority in Myanmar.

Global Witness, a human rights group, submitted eight paid advertisements on Facebook that contained hate speech for the Rohingya, and all were approved for publication.

Some of the advertisements were said to include “They are very dirty. Bengali and Rohingya women have very low standards of living and poor hygiene. They are not attractive.”
