1. Does the Earth’s gravity act differently depending on the location?

Wherever we go on Earth, we can always feel gravity…but,

There are places on Earth where the magnitude of this gravitational force is relatively larger or smaller than other places.

It is said that the low-gravity spot, which has lower gravity than other places, is on the coast of India, and the high-gravity spot with relatively high gravity is in the South Pacific…

2. Is Earth’s atmosphere leaking?

Among the molecules located in the outermost part of the Earth’s atmosphere, there are some whose movement speed reaches the escape velocity (the speed that can shake off the Earth’s attractive force) It’s a story.

In particular, hydrogen molecules are said to be leaking into space at a higher rate than other molecules because they are easy to reach the escape velocity because of their light mass.

3. Is the Earth’s rotation speed changing?

It is said that the rotational speed of the Earth varies with time due to the influence of the gravitational fluctuations of the moon, the sun, and other planets in the solar system, the movement of interplanetary matter, and other mechanisms of magnetization.

And recently, days are getting shorter every hundredths of a second, and the cause of this is also unknown.

In particular, in January and February, the Earth’s rotation speed is slower than in other months.

4. Van Allen’s radiation is strong enough to kill people?

The Van Allen Radiation Zone is a band of radiation that surrounds the Earth in a donut shape around the equator at 2000~5000km and 10000~20,000km above the Earth.

The existence of Van Allen’s belt itself is famous enough that everyone knows, but it is said that the radiation contained in this belt is so strong that the astronauts of the Apollo spacecraft said that just passing through this belt for a very short time increased the risk of cancer.

It’s kind of scary to think of something like that floating above our heads…;;

5. Is the moon moving away from Earth?

Measurements over 25 years have revealed that the moon’s orbit is gradually increasing—that is, it is slowly moving away from Earth.

It is said that it is moving away by about 4cm a year… It is said that the cause is the tides, conservation of energy, and conservation of angular momentum.

Astronomers predict that in about 5 billion years, when the Sun ages and enters the red giant phase, the Earth and the Moon will be brought closer again due to the effects of the Sun’s expanded atmosphere.

Eventually, when the Moon and Earth get closer than 11,470 miles (18,470 km) and cross the Roche Limit, the Moon will shatter and crumble to powder, forming a ring around the Earth like Saturn’s rings.

By then, it may not be possible for humans to exist, but it is a sight I would like to see for some reason.

6. Does the moon have a tidal effect on Earth’s atmosphere?

The moon is said to have the same effect on the Earth’s atmosphere as well as the oceans.

Theoretically, the influence is said to be stronger in the tropics, but the fluctuation range does not exceed 100 microbars or 0.01 percent of the average ground pressure, so it seems so small that it is difficult to detect it without special observation technology.

7. Is the Earth shaking about its axis of rotation?

The Chandler motion is a phenomenon in which the position of the tip of the Earth’s axis of rotation at the North Pole changes little by little in a period of about 14 months (433 days). It was discovered in 1891 by American astronomer Seth Carroll Chandler.

It is said that the width of the change is about 6 meters. It may be a minor difference when viewed as a whole, but on a human scale, it is surprising that the Earth was shaking and swaying by 6 meters ^^;

8. Are electric charges always flowing on the earth’s surface?

Scientists have known that the Earth’s surface is negatively charged since 1917, but no one knows why this phenomenon occurs.

In areas with good weather, this charge flows between the Earth and the atmosphere and is consumed.

9. Is a large amount of dust pouring into Earth from space?

According to space.com, an enormous amount of interplanetary dust, about 30,000 tons, is pouring into Earth every year without us even knowing it.

Between Mars and Jupiter, countless large and small asteroids collide with each other as they orbit the sun and scatter debris.

It is said that cosmic dust and rock fragments with high inflow velocity burn in the atmosphere and become meteors, while those with slow velocity orbit the Earth.

10. Are Earth’s magnetic poles changing?

The current Earth has an S pole in the North Pole and an N pole in the Antarctic…

Scientists have investigated the magnetization of rocks on the seafloor, and it is said that it has been revealed that the Earth’s magnetic pole has reversed several times in the past.

According to Wikipedia, the reversal of the stimulus occurs about 1.5 times per million years… The cycle or rate is said to be quite irregular.

What actually happens when the stimulus is reversed?
