During the hot summer months, high temperature and humidity can weaken your stamina and weaken your immune system. Especially in summer, the amount of time exposed to UV rays naturally increases due to frequent outdoor activities, including vacations. In addition, UV rays destroy the skin’s elastic structure and stimulate the melanocytes that darken the skin, acting as the main cause of blemishes, freckles, and blemishes. In addition, frequent exposure to high temperatures and strong heat generates a lot of heat on the skin surface, which results in the decomposition of elastic fibers and collagen necessary for the skin, which lowers skin elasticity and causes wrinkles at the same time. In particular, these related actions can cause various skin problems and blisters, and can lead to the occurrence of various skin diseases due to secondary infection. Therefore, it is important to minimize exposure to strong UV rays by implementing various management methods that are helpful for skin health, and to manage carefully so that the heat does not rise excessively on the skin. So today, let’s take a look at various skin care methods that help skin health in summer.

How to take care of your skin in summer

1. Use sunscreen

It can be said that the most important thing in summer skin care is to block strong UV rays and maintain proper moisture on the skin. Ultraviolet light is invisible light with a shorter wavelength than visible light, and is divided into various types such as UV-A and UV-B. When exposed to strong UV rays for a long time, it can cause wrinkles and blemishes, and it can also affect the skin’s immune system, causing skin damage and skin aging. In addition, prolonged exposure to UV-B, one of the types of ultraviolet rays, can increase the risk of sunburn and skin cancer. Therefore, it is recommended to apply sunscreen thoroughly to effectively block UV rays and to protect the skin from heat, wind, and external substances. When using sunscreen, it is recommended to apply it carefully to the exposed area before going out or before outdoor activities and reapply it every 2-3 hours. In summer, it is said that using a waterproof product that is not easily erased by sweat and water helps a lot. When using sunscreen before outdoor activities, it is recommended to select products with SPF 30-50, PA++ or higher, and indoors, use SPF 15-30, PA++ or higher. In addition, it is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and store at an appropriate temperature as the UV blocker is prone to deterioration due to its high oil content, and it is recommended to use it within 1 year after opening.

2. Implementation of methods to reduce heat on the skin

When the surface of the skin is heated due to strong UV rays and hot weather, it results in the decomposition of elastic fibers and collagen necessary for the skin tissue, which reduces skin elasticity and promotes the creation of wrinkles. Therefore, it is important to constantly manage the skin so that the heat does not rise excessively. It is said that cold compresses and mists help a lot in lowering the skin temperature. However, direct exposure to air from an air conditioner or fan can cause moisture to evaporate and cause dry skin.

3. Supply sufficient moisture to the skin

Due to strong UV rays and high temperature, summer is said to cause a lot of water loss compared to other seasons. Therefore, it is important to apply a moisturizing cream in the morning and in the evening to help retain moisture. In addition, you need to pay more attention to washing your face to properly wash away sweat and sebum that are secreted a lot in summer. If you do not wipe off the sebum that is secreted well, your pores are clogged and acne occurs more easily. However, if you use too strong a cleanser to remove sebum, it can actually damage your skin, so it is recommended to use a mild cleanser. In addition, if you wash your face too often, it is recommended to wash your face 2 to 3 times a day because it loses not only sebum and pollutants but also moisture to the skin.

4. Drink plenty of water

When the moisture, which constitutes about 60~70% of our body, is insufficient, the necessary moisture in the body is supplied from the cells, and the skin becomes dry easily and loses elasticity. Therefore, it is recommended to drink a sufficient amount of water to prevent moisture loss and keep the skin moist. In particular, this lack of water in the body is closely related to the onset of heat-related diseases such as heat stroke and heat stroke, which are easy to occur in summer, so you should drink enough. However, coffee and beverages with high caffeine content excrete more water than ingested water, so it is recommended to control intake.

5. Eat foods that are good for your skin

For skin care in summer, it is also a good way to eat foods that help skin health in a balanced way. Various foods such as citrus fruits, green vegetables, plums, strawberries, kiwi, and paprika have a high vitamin C content, so they have an excellent effect in promoting the synthesis of collagen, which composes the skin tissue. Not only that, it also inhibits the formation of melanin, which makes the skin dark, so it is effective in removing blemishes and blemishes. In addition, various foods such as tomatoes, nuts, salmon, eggs, berries, and avocados are known to help protect the skin from oxidative stress and strong UV rays caused by free radicals.
